Cumberland Valley remains the core of the rapidly developing logistics and warehousing industry serving the eastern US. There is faster growth of warehouses in Lehigh valley (around Allentown), but this is somewhat offset by higher growth in development of “Class A” (newest, most modern) mega-warehouses over 500,000 sq ft in Carlisle area (due to cheaper land). Cumberland remains the top County in terms of total square footage of warehouse space and also employment, as well as warehousing / logistics as proportion of total employment; Warehousing now accounts 11.3% in Cumberland, and developers routinely complain about inadequate labor for even already existing warehouses, let alone those under construction.
